After that, I stepped into the real world of meat production and consumption: a world of which I heard about of but never investigated.

There’re a lot of shocking information around, basically the problems related with high meat production and consumption typical of our lifestyle can be summarize in:
- cattle produce greenhouse gases, so contributing to global warming (they say this is more impacting than all the vehicles put together)
- producing meat requires high demand of natural resources like water and to feed the animals soia has to be produced, to produce more soia more soil is needed, to have more soil more deforestation has to take place, and so on so forth in the chain of destruction
- modern animal farming techniques are just horrible, to produce more meat animals are grown in unnatural conditions, don’t have space to live and are feed with medicines and other shit to prevent diseases
- eating too much meat is bad for the health

After knowing this, I really thought that reducing my meat consumption was a really good idea, and also something very simple to do.
It wasn’t uncommon for me to eat meat, ham or salami everyday, so I immediately liked the concept of becoming a weekday vegetarian.

Please don’t tell me that to be coherent then to fight global warming  I also have to stop driving my motorbike and my van, and stop taking planes.
While these actions are also impacting, they’re much more difficult decision to take than become a weekday vegetarian.
Instead, I invite you to become a weekday vegetarian too, or at least to think and reduce your meat consumption, knowing that this will have a more positive effect than me stopping driving my vehicles and living a miserable life

Anyway, I did the experiment in June and for the whole month I tried to eat meat only on the weekends.
How did it go?
Well, I discover the  beauty of living without buying any meat at the supermarket.
Vegetables are good, and there are very nice options around.
My new favourite dishes are caprese salade,  mixed salade and grilled vegetables
And having to travel for work and staying in good hotels, I always have restaurants with vegetarian options available.
And also, buying vegetables is cheaper!!

I didn’t stick to the schedule very well: a Thursday evening I ended up in an Argentinian restaurant with some colleagues and couldn’t avoid to have a steak, ops!
But on the other hand, getting used to avoid meat lead me to often avoid meat in weekends too.

They say that if you do something for 30 days, it will became an habit.
So here I am, almost completing my second month as weekday vegetarian, and still loving the idea of the positive impact that this brings.

The lessons I learned are:
1) we don’t need to eat animals, really, try it yourself
2) a consumer we have a lot of power… and responsibilities too

beh che dire sono veramente contento della fantastica serata,  oltre al divertimento ora posso partire sereno perchè sò di avere raccolto negli anni un gruppo di AMICI che sono persone eccezionali!

Il COCONUT è il posto perfetto per queste feste, oltre al cibo (spettacolari gli spaghetti allo scoglio) c'era la sala da ballo tutta per noi, e i cantanti a nostra completa disposizione tanto che li interrompevamo a piacimento per monopolizzare il palco e i microfoni!

AlexRR ha cercato tutta sera di farmi commuovere con frasi ad effetto del tipo:

"se siamo ancora qui tutti insieme dopo il momento difficile di ottobre è merito all'80% di BESA" (seee appena? ) 

Spettacolari i momenti di scambio dei regali, sia i vostri che i miei pensierini: a pensare alle grigliate che faranno i miei amici e ai motogiri ScreamBikers sulle Alpi sì che mi veniva da piangere!!! 

Ammetto che il tanto richiesto discorso me lo ero preparato praticamente ancora prima di fare il colloquio per il nuovo lavoro:

"riprendendo le frasi di Amstrong, il primo uomo a mettere piede sulla Luna, posso dire che questo è un PICCOLO passo per l'umanità, ma è un GRANDE passo per me!"

E quando Micia non è riuscita a trattenere le lacrime (a proposito donne non dovevate venire col velo nero?) un'altra battuta pronta:

"ragazze è inutile piangere adesso, dovevate darmela prima!!!!"

Indimenticabili poi i balletti di Miky, che era talmente serio da farci pensare che era veramente ubriaco marcio… qualche giorno dopo Maurino mi ha detto "dopo aver visto Miky ballare con la parrucca avrei speso anche 100€!" una battuta con cui si spazzano via i casini che ci sono stati dopo la presentazione del conto salato.

Dico solo che quando si è invitati alla festa di qualcuno è MALEDUCAZIONE fare certe scenate, chi vuole capire la capisca, BARBONI!!!

Un uomo d’affari americano in vacanza in Messico era fermo sul molo di un piccolo villaggio costiero, quando una minusco la barca con un solo pescatore a bordo si avvicinò. Nella barca c’erano alcuni tonni molto grandi e molto belli; l’americano si complimentò con il pescatore per la qualità del suo pesce e gli chiese quanto tempo c’era voluto per catturarlo.

Il messicano replicò: “Non molto, señor, sono stato fuori in mare con la mia barca solo per poche ore”.

L’americano, sorpreso, chiese: “Voi siete evidentemente un buon pescatore, e questi sono pesci molto belli; allora, perché non siete rimasto fuori più a lungo e ne avete catturati di più?”.

Il messicano rise: “Perché avrei dovuto farlo, señor? Guada gno abbastanza da mantenere me e la mia famiglia, non ho bi sogno di altro pesce”.

Allora il turista chiese: “Che cosa fate, quindi, con il resto del vostro tempo?”.

Il pescatore messicano rispose: “Sono completamente libero di fare tutto quello che mi pare. Gioco con i miei bambini, fac cio la siesta con mia moglie, tutte le sere vado al villaggio dove bevo vino e suono la chitarra con i miei amici. Ho una vita pie na e gratificante, señor “.

Deridendolo, l’americano disse: “Ah, lei la pensa così ades so…”. Estrasse il suo biglietto da visita: “Sono laureato a Harvard in business management, e posso aiutarla. Per come la ve do io, lei dovrebbe trascorrere più tempo a pescare ogni giorno, e con i proventi dì quello che cattura potrebbe acquistare una barca più grande. Dopo qualche tempo potrebbe vendere la barca più grande e comprarne diverse, e alla fine diventare pro prietario di una flotta. Avremmo bisogno di assumere più pe scatori, per forza, ma non si preoccupi. Conosco la persona giusta per aiutarci a sceglierli”.

A quel punto l’americano aveva già estratto un bloc-notes ed era affaccendato con flow chart e diagrammi.

“In pochi anni”, continuò, “invece di vendere il suo pesce a un intermediario, potrebbe venderlo direttamente alle indu strie di trasformazione, e alla fine aprire la sua fabbrica di in scatolamento. In quel modo, potrebbe controllare il prodotto, la lavorazione e la distribuzione. Ovviamente dovrà lasciare questo villaggio e trasferirsi, per esempio a Città del Messico: comprenderà, abbiamo bisogno di accrescere il suo profilo sul mercato. Da lì, probabilmente si sposterà a Los Angeles e poi a New York, dove potrà controllare il successo del suo business in espansione”.

L’americano si interruppe senza fiato, e aspettò che il pesca tore esprimesse la sua gratitudine per i consigli ricevuti. Il messicano riflette: “Scusi, señor, ma quanto tempo ci vorrà per rutto questo?”.

L’americano, che ora stava lavorando con la sua calcolatrice Psion e scriveva sul suo bloc-notes, rispose: “Oh, direi qualcosa come 15 o 20 anni”.

“Ma poi, señor?”.

L’americano rise e rispose: “Ecco la parte migliore. Al mo mento giusto – e sarò felice di avvisarla quando sarà arrivato -potrà mettere la società sul mercato azionario, vendere le sue quote al pubblico e diventare molto ricco. Farà milioni”.

“Milioni, señor?”, chiese il pescatore, sfregandosi il mento. “E dopo tutto questo, che cosa ancora?”.

L’americano rispose: “Be’, alla fine potrà ritirarsi da uomo ricco, e scegliere esattamente la vita che desidera per lei e la sua famiglia. Per esempio, potrebbe trasferirsi in un piccolo villaggio di pescatori sulla costa. Sarà completamente libero di fare quello che vuole: potrà giocare con i suoi figli, fare la siesta con sua moglie e andare al villaggio tutte le sere, a bere vino e a suonare la chitarra con gli amici. Potrà avere una vita piena e gratificante”.

Why?
Because:
- it’s great to experience something new every month
- sharing publicly the results is a way to keep me motivated
- I want to inspire people to be curious and start experimenting as well… and share back

The first experiment actually happened already last September.

When I bought my house, I went trough the classic “pack/move/unpack/find a place” for all my material properties.
I realized that, in 4 years in Netherlands, I accumulate already an amount of things totally useless or that I never use…. so here we go: the first experiment is about minimalism.

Inspired by Leo Babauta (http://zenhabits.net/ and author of “The Power of Less”) I decided to free my house and myself from things that are only taking space in my house and in my mind without doing me any good.

So, after I moved in the new apartment I decided that for 30 days I would throw away something every day.
Some days could be just a piece of paper, some days an old obsolete electronic *something*, some days a t-shirt I never used because too ugly.
But everyday I had to find something to get rid of.

Well, I loved the results so much that sometime I really feel like throwing away something and I look around the house checking what’s next to go in the bin

I realized that the less things I have, the more free I feel
I realized that the less things I have, the easier is to maintain order (someone may disagree that my house is in order…)
I realized that the less things I have, the more I enjoy and I value the things that I DO have
I realized that the less things I have, the more I think about buy/bring new things in my house and into my life

Don’t take me wrong… this doesn’t mean I’m living like a monk, without buying things or depriving myself of the pleasure of owning something just because I like it or it means something to me.
I haven’t throw away anything with a sentimental value and I kept on buying what I thing I need, or I like, or I fancy…. but still, this experiment make me think twice now before taking anything into my life and into my house.

So the lesson I learn is cristal clear to me: Less is More

As I read a lot about happiness in the last year, I could not ignore this title

I found this Tony Hsieh, which I didn’t know, CEO of Zappos.com, which I didn’t know, offering a free copy of his new book for bloggers.

Few days later an UPC shipment is at my door: you know when you’re surprised because you’re not expecting anything, right?

Well I open the box and I found 2 advance reading copies of the “Delivering Happiness” book.
My natural reaction was a big WOW: 2 copies of a book not yet published delivered by express international shipment. WOW.

Well, after reading the book, I understood this was exactly the purpose of it. Tony’s culture, that reflects in Zappos way of operate, is all built around the “WOW effect”: the reaction of positive surprise, when something unexpected exceed our expectation and we struggle to believe it’s true.

Turned out that Tony Hsieh is a young and rich entrepreneur running the biggest online shoes shop: www.zappos.com
But that’s not the interesting part. Tony is different than others young and reach entrepreneur because he’s moved by an higher purpose.
He strives to deliver happiness, to generate joy for himself and for everyone else.

The book is in 3 parts.

In the first part (Profits) Tony writes about his life, how since his childhood he has always had a business oriented mindset (trying to build a worms factory, for example!) and later on how as a teenager went through different interests and experiences.
I loved how he could get lessons out of every experience. That’s what experiences are made for.
It’s not important which experiences you go through… for Tony was playing poker and going to rave parties, for someone else can be playing soccer and camping.
It doesn’t matter. What matters is the lesson you get out of it.
In some parts Tony can be seen as the classic lucky guy that got millions from the Internet boom, but is Tony’s way of openly and honestly shares what every passion gave him that shows that Tony has something more than money and ideas, Tony is looking for an higher purpose.

It’s when he decided to risk all his money into Zappos that this becomes clear.
There’s a sentence here that opened my eyes… “I had discovered my new passion. I was passionate about proving everyone wrong.”.

Tony’s passion is not in shoes. Passion is not in our job. Passion is in ourself. This made me realize that the passion I had for IT (that leaded me to a humbly great career) was not about IT, but was about proving that I could be part of this system and built a position.

The second part (Profits and passion) is all about Zappos, since Tony’s decision to fully dedicate his time to it.
From the hard and uncertain times of the beginning to the affirmation of the company built around culture and core values.
This part isn’t my favourite, but this is me. I’m more interested in Tony’s personal journey than in business management… but still, this is a pleasant read full of amazing anecdotes and contributions from Zappos employees.

The section 3 of the book (Profit, passion and purpose) is not just the closing chapter with some ideas about further business development.
It’s the disclosure of what is behind the creation of the “delivering happiness” concept.
This is the part I love the most. It talks about life purpose, science of happiness and happiness framework… and close with a set of questions for YOU to think.
In this part the analysis of happiness top my previous favourite one from “the 4 hours work week” by Tim Ferris… there happiness is excitement, while here passion is a kin of happiness before reaching an higher purpose.

If you’re looking for inspiration about how to live before you die… this is one of the book I would recommend you to have

Sat 27th Feb 2010 I did bought a van, a Volkswagen Transporter T4 from 1999, called “The Salsa Shuttle”.

It’s something I was talking about since few weeks but still people didn’t took me seriously thinking I was kidding… so many people asked me “Why did you bought a van??”

While my first answer is always “why not?”… there is more behind this decision and I want to share here my idea that buying a car is a much worse idea than buying a van.

It happened that I found myself driving a van for 2 weekends in a row: first driving the artists around for the Amsterdam Salsa Festival (which was lot of fun) and then taking my team mates from eStilo show group to Frankfurt (and back).
Both weekends were great and I spot the possibility that having a van is the way to go.

As my inspiring French friend Xavier use to say, a van can do anything a car can do… and much more.

This is a list of things I can do with my van:
- going to a Salsa party with a 8 other friends
- going to kite surfing on the beach with some friends and full equipment, getting changed inside the van if it’s a bit cold (and here in Holland it is!) with no need to take 2 cars
- stay on the beach for a BBQ, then sleeping in the van and go to the office the day after
- put my bicycle (or more) in the van, so if I park far from my house I can cycle home (typical Amsterdam problem) or I can go somewhere and cycle there

While I’m not planning at the moment to rent out my apartment to live in the van like some people do (check http://www.frugal-retirement-living.com/living-in-an-rv.html) I think is nice to know that with such a great vehicle I have plenty of possibilities that are just not possible with a normal car.

Problem is, people buy cars under the social pressure of “girls only go out with people with Porsche”, “if you drive a BMW you’re wealth”, “I got a baby then I need a SUV”, etc. etc.
This happens in most social environment, but I’m lucky enough to live in a place, Amsterdam, where this is just not happening for different reasons.
People here are practical and move around with bicycles, by far the best way to get around the city.
Girls won’t complain if you arrive with a old bike, and your neighbor won’t laugh at you if you don’t have a car, or if you have an old Fiat Uno (btw, there still ARE Fiat Uno driving around).

Well, look like I choose the right environment to don’t have the pressure to have an expensive car, but this is indeed also because if you live in the city, a car is not required at all.
If you live in rural area, then the story is probably the same as in any other rural area around, and the logic of “big car, big house” will kick in.

Anyway, we were talking about my new vehicle.
I love it.
It has none of the fancy useless optionals so important in modern cars: no electric windows, no A/C, no ABS, no central lock, no remote control, no lights turning on automatically or parking sensors.
Damn, this is a van, not a luxury car!!

It drives smooth and the 2.5 TDI engine is powerful enough to move 9 people around with a comfortable cruising speed of 120-130 Km/h.
If you argue that is not that fast, well I have a 260Km/h motorbike so if I need speed I won’t definitively take the van!

Once I decided to buy a van, it took me 1 week to find the right one.

I went bus-shopping in a couple of places, initially looking for a Mercedes Vito.
The Vito is the van that offer the most car-alike driving experience, plus is Mercedes that would make my dad extremely proud of me.

Vito’s turned out to be all too rusty and with too many KMs to take the risk… so I found this Volkswagen T4 that looked like the best surf-van ever

It was, according to the dealer, used as a school bus.
I like to think that an old man drove this van for 11 years, taking the little kids around.
Every now and then, a little kid would pee on the seat and would start crying.
One day, the old man retired and had to abandon his loved school bus and the routine of the itinerary to drive every day.
At that point, a young man got hired to replace the old man and as a first thing he asked for the old mini-bus to be replaced with a new model.

I may be totally wrong, but I like to think that this is the history of my van before it became known as The Salsa Shuttle

Ad ogni modo, non sto scrivendo questo post per spiegare cos’e’ CS (CouchSurfing), e neanche per convincere che e’ una idea bella o sicura ospitare o farsi ospitare da uno sconosciuto.

Sto scrivendo invece per condividere la mia prima esperienza: settimana scorsa ho avuto il mio primo ospite, come dicevo all’inizio.

Mi ha contattato sul sito web, offrendo di essere il mio primo ospite per 2 notti visto che stava per venire a visitare Amsterdam per una settimana.

Controllando il suo profilo, mi ha fatto una bella impressione e ho potuto vedere che stava facendo una vacanza in giro per l’Europa durante una pausa Sabbatica facendosi ospitare da gente trovata su CS: questo gia’ lo ha reso un personaggio interessante!

Chris, questo e’ il suo nome, e’ arrivato ben organizzato. La prima notte e’ stato in hotel, ma mi ha telefonato cosi’ ci siamo visti per una birra.
Questa e’ stata una bella mossa, cosi’ ci siam potuti conoscere di persona prima di ospitare/farsi ospitare da uno sconosciuto. Era chiaramente un esperto CouchSurfer e una persona ben organizzata.

La serata e’ stata piacevole, facendogli visitare alcuni locali caratteristici di Amsterdam e parlando del suo viaggio, di come e’ finito a prendere una pausa Sabbatica e raccontandoci storie.

E’ stato mio ospite per 2 giorni, anche se in realta’ un vero couch (divano) da offrirgli non ce l’ho, visto che ho 2 cuscinoni “fat boy” a casa mia

Mi son sentito in colpa che non ho potuto offrirgli un vero letto, ma ha commentato cosi’:

“non ti preoccupare, fa parte dell’esperienza con CouchSurfing… se hai i sacchi, dormo sui sacchi!”

Questo dice tutto sullo spirito di chi sceglie di viaggiare in questo modo… ma pensaci un attimo.

Chris sta viaggiando da solo, una situazione che darebbe disagio e fastidio a molte persone.
Invece di pagare Hotel e provare a divertirsi in posti a caso, e’ stato ospitato da qualcuno che vive nella citta’ (che sarei io) che puo’ consigliargli cosa vedere e presentargli gente nuova. Non si e’ annoiati neanche un secondo.

E ora io.
Ospitarlo e’ stata una bella esperienza, da cui ho guadagnato qualcosa. Andare in giro nei posti che preferisco e’ stato divertente e si e’ parlato tanto di tutto.
Ora ho un amico in piu’… uno di quegli amici con cui vuoi restare in contatto, non una di quelle persone con cui vai ad un party senza neanche parlare… e inoltre, ora son davvero curioso di provare a farmi un weekend da solo da qualche parte facendomi ospitare.

Raccomando di dare un occhio al progetto Couchsurfing e di pensarci… come dicevo puo’ piacere o no, capisco, pero’ e’ bello sapere che cose cosi’ esistono e offrono esperienze interessanti…. e la vita e’ fatta di esperienze…. no?

P.S.: il secondo ospite che ho avuto era una ragazza Russa in visita in Europa, ed e’ andata anche meglio

Era poco piu’ di un mese fa quando ho avuto la possibilita’ di prendere una vacanza in Cumbuco, Brasile.

Il mio amico Gui stava per andare la’ e ho pensato che questa e’ una di quelle occasioni che non mi faccio scappare facilmente… allora ho preso accordi al lavoro, sacrificato qualche giorno dal rientro natalizio in Italia e prenotato il mio volo da 10 ore Amsterdam-Fortaleza.

Son salito sull’aereo con una temperature di -2 gradi, e sceso con +30: abbastanza da farmi dimenticare le 10 ore precedenti

Atterrato a Fortaleza, ho trovato un tizio spagnolo mandato a prendermi col suo pick-up e portarmi 40Km a nord nel piccolo villaggio di pescatori Cumbuco.

Cumbuco e’ un’altra Mecca del kite surfing famosa in tutto il mondo, un posto “vento garantito al 100%” confermato dal fatto che in alcuni hotel non paghi la notte se non c’e’ vento durante la giornata.

Adoro il posto e la vita la’.

E’ un posto turistico, e’ vero, ma niente a che vedere con grossi hotel o ristoranti di lusso… e’ un autentico villaggio di pescatori con alcune infrastrutture turistiche per i kite surfers…. gente alla buona insomma.

Siamo stati in una bella pousada, gestita da un curioso ragazzo Spagnolo che ha lasciato la “rat race” per uno stile di vita alternativo in Brasile.
Piu’ tardi ho conosciuto i suoi amici, con simili storie interessanti.

IL KITE SURFING

Le condizioni del tempo erano strepitose: +30 di giorno, +25 di notte, buon vento (12-20Knots) dalle 10 di mattina fino a notte, non solo buono per il kite surfing ma anche per tenere l’umidita’ bassa.

Non abbiamo mai sofferto per il caldo, e l’aria condizionata non era necessaria per dormire come sassi. Il kite surfing era il miglior sonnifero…

Ci son diverse opportunita’ per chi vuol fare kite surfing.
Davanti alla nostra stanza, la grande spiaggia porta all’oceano, non un posto per principianti considerando le onde da 1-2 metri.
Ero in shock, abituato come sono all’acqua piatta di laghi e lagune

Fare surf sulle onde e’ una bella sfida, ma seguire un downwinder apre molte altre possibilita’.
Fare un downwinder significa fare kite surfing seguendo la direzione del vento percorrendo la costa, spostandosi da un posto all’altro.
Facendo un downwinder ci circa 7Km permetteva di raggiungere una bella – ma affollata – laguna, dove la gente del posto stava pericolosamente vicina all’acqua a guardare i salti.
In una baracca servivano aqua de coco e quello che chiamavo il “pesce brutto”…. un piatto con un intero pesce grigliato con una pessima faccia, ma buona sostanza, insieme a riso, fagioli, pomodori e insalata.

Comunque, un downwind piu’ lungo porta ad una piattaforma che funge da porto e che influiscce sulle onde in un modo assolutamente spettacolare, se solo sapessi come cavalcarle
Il punto, Cauipe, e’ un posto maledetto e ci siamo spaventati a morte perche’ c’erano dei pali di legno a filo dell’acqua che quasi non si vedevano, e una corrente che ci trascinava proprio verso di loro.

Downwinder piu’ lunghi possono portare virtualmente fino alla Guiana e Suriname

Il ritorno da questi downwinder e’ garantito dalle macchine tipo buggy che, per qualche soldo e un po’ di paura, ti portano sulla spiaggia stracarichi di gente e roba.

Quindi, l’oceano con le onde, i downwinder e la laguna hanno dato abbastanza varieta’ alla mia settimana di kite surfing.

BRAZIL

Non c’e’ bisogno di dire che 1 settimana e’ troppo poco per vedere/fare molto, pero’ scrivo qui le impressioni che ho avuto…

Il cibo e’ favoloso: carne di ottima qualita’ ai ristoranti churrascaria, come picanha, carne do sol, costela (un’intera costola di mucca servita con l’osso!) insieme a fagioli (fajieao) e verdure sono molto facili da trovare.

Da bere, succhi di frutta come caju (il mio preferito), acai (con cereali, abbastanza da darti energie per 1 giorno ed 1 notte, foto a lato), abacaxi e altri frutti mai visti prima.
Oppure “agua de coco” venduta sulla spiaggia: fanno un buco in una noce di cocco e ci mettono dentro una cannuccia per farti bere.

OK, proseguiamo…

Mi e’ piaciuto Cumbuco perche’ i pescatori sono ancora li’, cosi’ puoi decidere di andare in locali turistici (economici) oppure nei locali della gente del posto (economicissimi).

I ristoranti per gente locale non servono pesce, visto che i pescatori ne hanno abbastanza a casa loro, e un piatto di carne con verdure e un succo di frutta fresco e caffe’ costavano 6 Reais, qualcosa come 2 euro e 50 centesimi

La gente ti parla in Portoghese pensando che tu capisci tutto, infatti possono parlare per ore senza notare lo sguardo confuso sulla tua faccia.

Cosa non mi e’ piaciuto? Le ragazze.
Non perche’ non siano belle (meno belle del previsto, ma alcune davvero stupende) ma perche’ giocano per soldi.
Penso che lo farebbero lo stesso a gratis, ma i turisti sono una interessante fonte di guadagno per le classi basse.
Questo e’ il problema, il Brasile ha classe sociale alta e bassa, senza niente in mezzo. Come in molte altre nazioni, questa separazione aumenta criminalita’ e prostituzione…

Non posso dire molto di piu’ sul Brasile, uno stato cosi’ grande richiede mesi e un bel po’ di spostamenti per essere valutato, ma son contento che abbiamo trovato un posto turistico con alcuni elementi di genuinita’ locale!

Molte persone chiedono:

Dove ballare Salsa ad Amsterdam?
Come e’ la Salsa scene in Olanda?
Che stili si ballano?

Bene, vediamo di rispondere una domanda alla volta.

Innanzitutto, devo dire che arrivo da Milano, dove la Salsa e’ ENORME… sono stato viziato in un certo senso, ma ero anche stanco per l’attitudine dei ballerini la’.

Dopo quasi 4 anni in Olanda posso dire che la scena Salsera qui e’ piccola ma molto attiva!
Si puo’ ballare ad Amsterdam quasi tutti i giorni della settimana – seriamente da Mercoledi’ a Domenica.

Per il turista che arriva ad Amsterdam e’ deludente notare che non ci sono molti Salsa Club… questo e’ perche’ qui vanno molto di moda party e feste delle scuole che non son facili da trovare per un turista… a meno che leggi questo post ovviamente

Riguardo agli stili, qui si balla di tutto: on1, on2 (che sta diventando popolare), cuban, chacha, bachata, merengue (molto popolare nelle ex colonie come le Antille), e perfino Zouk.

Qua sotto un po’ di raccomandazioni sui migliori club e feste.

Club

C’e’ solo un Salsa club che raccomando di visitare assolutamente:
Cantinero – Taberna salon de baile – in Marie Heinekenplein.
Questo e’ IL posto che non ti vuoi perdere per controllare la scena Salsera.
Se sei abituato a grossi “salsodromi” come per esempio Tropicana o Zoo Latino a Milano, penserai “e’ tutto qui??” ma non sottovalutare questo bar/ristorante.
Cantinero e’ piccolo, rustico, semplice, ma nonostance cio e’ molto caldo e accogliente con le decorazioni di legno e le luci soffuse, insieme ad una fauna di gente che e’, beh, 100% Amsterdam con latinos, africani, Olandesi e tutto quello che c’e’ in mezzo

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Cantinero e’ CHIUSO (dalla fine di Febbraio 2010). Questa e’ stata una notizia terribile per tutti i Salseros di Amsterdam…. ma la vita continua e nuovi locali si stanno proponendo come rimpiazzo.

Chicano’s Restaurant (Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 105) e’ a detta di molti il nuovo Cantinero.

Ottima atmosfera e party organizzati ogni settimana da giovedi’ alla domenica dalla scuola Extremos.

Ci sono altri locali con nomi che possono trarre in inganno, come La Rumba, El Punto Latino, Brazil Bar…. lasciamo dire: se cerchi un club latino con gente che si guarda in giro senza ballare vai pure li’.
Se cerchi un locale di Salsa dove puoi ballare e conoscere gente, allora vai da qualche altra parte

Comunque, stavamo parlando di ballare qui quindi continuamo con le opzioni.

Badcuyp – questo e’ il club cubano in citta’ – davvero difficile trovare ballerini di NY e LA li dentro
La sera migliore e’ mercoledi’, e la cosa buona e’ che e’ vicino al Cantinero se la serata non va come vi aspettate.

Feste

Questo e’ una lista troppo lunga e complessa, quindi raccomando di controllare questa fantastica agenda ahttp://www.salsa.nl/Agenda/home.html per una lista completa. E’ in Olandese ma dovreste riuscire a cavarvela

Qui sotto la mia lista di feste che vi raccomando di non perdere:
- Copa Cabana (ogni 2 venerdi’): e’ fuori dal centro e ti servira’ probabilmente un taxi, ma c’e’ bella gente e dura fino alle 3am. Qui puoi anche vedere gente che balla ZOUK, un ballo che e’ popolare in pochi altri posti al di fuori dell’Olanda ma che e’ interessante da vedere.
- SalsaLounge (ultima domenica del mese): una volta molto popolare, ora attrae una folla mista perche’ ha una salsa con latin-house e un’altra per Salsa. E’ divertente e la location (Hotel Arena) va vista, anche se la pista da ballo ha un pavimento orribile.

Recentemente Amsterdam ha perso un po’ nella Salsa a favore di altre citta’ che hanno ora delle feste fantastiche… la migliore per me e’ Utrecht (40km da Amsterdam, 30 minuti di treno).

Se vuoi veramente controllare la scena Olandese, non perdere queste feste:
- Salsa Casa Loca (ultimo sabato del mese): e’ la festa migliore che c’e', assolutamente la miglior location, migliori ballerini e miglior musica!
- Winkel Van Sinkel (prima e terza domenica del mese): ottimo posto e pista da ballo, a volte il livello dei ballerini non e’ molto alto ma val la pena fare un tentativo! Attenzione che chiude a mezzanotte…. quindi arriva ad un orario olandese (=prestissimo)

So’ che e’ difficile trovare liste aggiornate di club e Salsa party quando si va a visitare una citta’… mi ricordo a Copenaghen quando avevo trovato una lista di indirizzi di club chiusi da anni ed e’ stato molto fastidioso!!
